Who does Thangana Group work with?
We primarily support South African individuals, salaried employees, freelancers and small to medium-sized businesses that need practical tax and compliance help.

Are your services limited to a specific city or province?
No. While we are based in South Africa, we serve clients nationwide using email, phone and online meetings.

Can everything be done online?
In most cases, yes. You can safely share documents electronically and meet with us via video or phone. Where originals are required, we will explain exactly what is needed.

Do you only handle once-off tax returns?
No. We assist with once-off filings as well as ongoing support, such as monthly bookkeeping, VAT submissions and annual company tax.

How do I know which service I need?
You do not have to decide upfront. Contact us with a short description of your situation and we will recommend the right service and next steps.

Who needs to file a personal income tax return?
Most South Africans who earn income from employment, contracting, rental, investments or business activities may need to file. If you are unsure, we can quickly check your SARS status and advise you.

When are SARS personal tax deadlines?
Tax season dates can change slightly each year, but individual filing usually runs from mid-year to late in the year. We will confirm the exact SARS deadlines for your situation when you contact us.

What documents should I prepare?
Common documents include your IRP5/IT3(a), medical aid and retirement annuity certificates, investment or rental statements, travel logbooks and any other income or deduction records. We will send you a simple checklist before we start.

How do tax refunds work?
Once your return is submitted and assessed, SARS will either issue a refund, request supporting documents or indicate that no amount is due. If a refund is due, it is usually paid into your registered bank account. We monitor your assessment and keep you updated.

How can Thangana Group help with my personal tax?
We review your information, prepare and submit your return to SARS, check for allowable deductions, and explain your assessment in plain language so you know exactly where you stand.

What are my basic company tax responsibilities?
If you run a company or close corporation, you must keep proper records, submit annual income tax returns, and in many cases submit provisional tax and VAT. We help you set up simple systems so this becomes manageable.

What is provisional tax and who must pay it?
Provisional tax is an estimate of your taxable income paid to SARS in advance, usually twice a year. Most companies and many business owners are required to register. We can assess whether you are a provisional taxpayer and handle the calculations and submissions.

How are small businesses taxed?
Tax treatment depends on your legal structure (sole proprietor, partnership, company) and your turnover. We explain the options, including small business incentives where applicable, and help you stay compliant.

How long must I keep my business records?
In general, SARS requires that you keep supporting records for at least five years. We will guide you on what to keep, in which format, and how to organise it.

Can Thangana Group assist with year-end and ongoing support?
Yes. We can assist with once-off year-end returns, or provide ongoing monthly and quarterly support for tax, VAT and basic accounting.

When must my business register for VAT?
VAT registration becomes compulsory when your taxable supplies exceed the SARS threshold over a 12‑month period. You can also choose to register voluntarily once you meet the minimum voluntary threshold. We will assess your turnover and advise on the best timing.

How often must VAT returns be submitted?
Most small businesses submit VAT returns every two months, although some are placed on monthly or six‑monthly cycles. We confirm your cycle with SARS and build your internal deadlines around it.

What happens if I submit VAT late?
Late submissions or payments can attract penalties and interest from SARS. If you are already behind, we can help you catch up, communicate with SARS and reduce further risk.

Can you help with VAT registration and changes?
Yes. We assist with new VAT registrations, changes to banking details, member or director changes and, where appropriate, deregistration.

Do you also handle company registration and tax numbers?
Yes. We assist with company registration, tax registrations and related compliance so that your business starts on the right footing.

What types of training do you offer?
We run practical workshops for startups and small businesses on topics such as basic bookkeeping, tax basics, VAT, cash‑flow and compliance.

Are workshops in-person or online?
We offer both. For groups in the same area we can arrange in‑person sessions; for remote teams we provide live online training.

How long does a typical workshop run?
Most sessions run between 2 and 4 hours, depending on the topic and level of detail required. Longer programmes can be broken into shorter modules.

How is pricing structured?
Pricing depends on the topic, number of participants and whether the content is customised. Once we understand your needs, we provide a clear quote upfront.

Who are your workshops designed for?
They are designed for business owners, managers and staff who handle day‑to‑day finances and want to understand tax, VAT and compliance better.

How do your fees work?
We use transparent, agreed‑in‑advance pricing. Some services are quoted as fixed fees, while more complex or ongoing work may be billed on an hourly or monthly basis. You will always receive a written estimate before we start.

What is your typical turnaround time?
Turnaround depends on the service, the time of year and how quickly we receive complete information from you. For standard personal tax returns we usually aim to complete work within a few working days once all documents are received.

How will we communicate?
We use a mix of email, phone, WhatsApp and online meetings. We agree on your preferred communication method at the start of the engagement.

What happens after I send an enquiry?
We review your message, may request a few clarifying details, and then suggest next steps, timelines and a fee estimate. Once you approve, we onboard you and begin the work.

Can you work with my existing accountant or bookkeeper?
Yes. We are happy to collaborate with your existing advisors where this is in your best interest, as long as roles and responsibilities are clearly defined.

If your question is not covered above, we would be happy to help you directly.

You can send us your question using the form alongside or request a short call to discuss your situation.
